Don’t worry. Put away your mirrors and your beauty magazines and your books on tape. There is someone right here who knows you more than you do, who is making room on the couch, who is fixing a meal, who is putting on your favorite record, who is listening intently to what you have to say, who is standing there with you, face to face, hand to hand, eye to eye, mouth to mouth. this is a question i’ve asked myself countless times as of late. when a situation is stressful and i’m about to let myself freak out, i take a step back and ask myself: “is this situation really going to matter in a year?” if not, i shrug it off. if so, i take appropriate steps to correct the situation and move on. i’m not perfect, but this one question has helped me immensely. why worry? why get angry? why be miserable? the things we get upset about on a daily basis most likely won’t matter a week from now, let alone a year from now. perspective is key. don’t sweat the small stuff, and the big stuff won’t seem as scary.
